This year’s 81st Mercy Ball promises to be a night to remember! The Mercy Ball, a black tie affair organized by the Friends of Mercy since 1936 is a celebrated signature event that has become a tradition for Long Island’s holiday social season. Guests of Mercy Medical Center will enjoy this legendary night with delicious cuisine and fine wines. Along with dinner there will be live music, a Broadway performance, dancing and fellowship among the guests. Three deserving individuals will be honored for their unending support of Mercy Medical Center.
A special ceremony with high school seniors selected as the Honor Guard are presented to the Bishop of Rockville Centre. This tradition originated in 1942, when high school students took place for their older brothers, serving in the armed forces in World War II, who had been members of the traditional military Honor Guard. Today, high school seniors continue to serve in this esteemed role.
The Friends of Mercy was founded in 1935 as an organization of men dedicated to volunteering their time and efforts to raise funds for the hospital and support the advancement of medical and surgical care for the patients of Mercy. For more information, or to be contacted by the Friends of Mercy for further involvement, please call Gloria DiSciullo in the Office of Development at (516) 705-2618.
